In the final of the fourth season of the Icon League, SC Bürgeramt and FC Berlin City met. Berlin City entered the final with a lot of confidence after their semi-final victory against the Focus Eagles. But the Bürgeramt has recently turned up the pressure impressively: nine victories in the last ten matches have made the team the strongest team in the championship. Everything was ready for a hot duel.
Berlin City got off to a better start and took the lead early on through Maximilian Grünberg. But the Citizen’s Office was not impressed by this situation. Berlin City looked unusually nervous and not as dominant as in the semi-final. A brace from Erhan Yilmaz turned things around and put Bürgeramt 3-1 ahead at the break.
Even after the break, the picture barely changed. The city of Berlin remained surprisingly cautious and rarely found offensive solutions. Suad Ak’s goal to make it 3-2 briefly gave hope, but once again Bürgeramt had the right answer. Yilmaz completed his hat trick and restored the old gap.
During the Rulebreakers, both teams scored twice, Bürgeramt scored twice, Berlin City only scored once. In addition, Berlin City weakened in the final phase: after a substitution error, the team had to play outnumbered in the final minutes. Too much to turn the game around again.
In the end it was 6:3. The big surprise was perfect: SC Bürgeramt are Icon League champions.
A few weeks ago, almost no one would have imagined that the Bürgeramt would even be in the final. But towards the end of the regular season, the team turned things around, became the strongest team in the league and has now confirmed this streak in an impressive way. The first title in the club’s history is the reward we deserve.
