Former coach of Aurélien Tchouaméni in Bordeaux, Gustavo Poyet painted a portrait of the new environment of Real Madrid grounds.
Questioned by El Confidencial, Gustavo Poyet was dithyrambic about the French international Aurélien Tchouaméni, new midfielder of Real Madrid.
« He’s a very smart boy. explains the Uruguayan, current coach of Greece. Tchouaméni has a lot of personality. His ideas are clear and he knows what he wants at all times. He is one of those people and professionals who are always ready to learn. That’s great for a coach. He can play in different positions in midfield. In front of the defence, as a sentinel, or with a two-midfield system. What stands out is his physique. He is privileged and this allows him to reach this level. It is something impressive. He has it by nature. He has a lot of potential for different qualities. He is big, powerful, strong, defends and attacks, gives balance to systems and can throw himself. Poyet knows Tchouaméni well for having launched him among the professionals, in July 2018, with the Girondins de Bordeaux. “It was very easy for me to get him started, remembers Poyet. He was a boy with advanced professional training, I told him I was going to play him and he did it with all the calm in the world. He listens to you, learns and is polite. It’s easy. When I launched him, he was 18 years old. But I was sure he would not disappoint me. I had followed him at the training center and I integrated him. I played in place of Modric and what struck me was the ease with which he recovered the ball. It’s a bullet-stealing machine. He achieves everything. It’s not just that he’s physical, but he’s elegant when he plays and he also has a good touch on the ball. If you give him the choice, he likes to play in place of Casemiro in front of the defense. If he has someone next to him, like Kanté in the national team, he easily accesses the opposing penalty area. »
