User Review 1. FC Heidenheim: Strong squad despite bloodshed

Fan series for the 2nd league

With the help of the community, (Site notre blog d’information) will take a closer look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players fans are most looking forward to, where is there room for improvement and what’s in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and collected ratings – in league two we continue with the user « Tziward » and 1. FC Heidenheim.

How do you rate the 1. FC Heidenheim team?

As has often been the case in recent years, the FCH had to lay off some of the top performers this summer and fill vacancies. Despite the bloodshed, I would describe our team as a solid rock. Overall we have a lot of experience in the second division and many supporters have been with the club for a long time. Top performers such as Kevin Müller, Marnon Busch, Patrick Mainka and Tim Kleindienst embody the top level of the second division and guarantee a certain stability.

Despite the departure of Oliver Hüsing, defense is the centerpiece of the team and defender Mainka is one of the strongest defenders in the league. The storm is also very strong, especially with Tim Kleindienst and Christian Kühlwetter. I see the problem more in the middle. At HQ we have a few young players like Kevin Sessa, Dzenis Burnic and Jan Schöppner who have a lot of potential but are still inconsistent in their performance. The departures of Robert Leipertz and Tobias Mohr, who were our two best passers last season, weigh particularly heavily. At least one of the two construction sites was properly closed with Jan-Niklas Beste.

Where do you see a need to catch up on deadline day?

There is currently a need to catch up, especially on the offensive flank. With Jan-Niklas Beste, Tim Köther and Florian Pick, who returned on loan, we currently only have three players in the squad for these two positions. Moreover, Köther still seems to need some getting used to and wasn’t in the squad on the first day of the match. A player I could well imagine for this position would be Benjamin Goller, who was reportedly interested last summer. Players like Sarpreet Singh or Aaron Opoku are also mentioned on the Heidenheim forum. Many Heidenheim fans see another construction site in the central attacking midfielder. Since Dovedan’s departure three years ago, the void he left has never really been filled. What could be more obvious than to bring Nikola Dovedan back to Brenz, without a club recently? In recent years, there should have been contact between the two parties from time to time. Nevertheless, a transfer does not seem particularly realistic at the moment.

What do you expect from the player aspect of the team?

Frank Schmidt is currently entering his 16th season as a coach with FCH. His handwriting has been clearly visible for many years, so I don’t expect any major changes this season either. As in previous years, the FCH will bet on a stable defense and will act with a fast vertical offensive game on the flanks. Core virtues such as passion, commitment and fighting spirit are more important in Heidenheim (Site notre bureau spécialisé) than game control and playful dominance.

What does 1. FC Heidenheim have in store for 2022/23?

Despite the departures of Hüsing, Mohr and Leipertz, there is good consistency in Heidenheim. On the one hand, this is due to the remaining basic structure, as well as coach Schmidt. So I guess FCH can also play a good role this season. With a normal run, a place in the upper midfield should be realistic. If you can improve the conversion chances compared to last season, I think another placement in the top third of the table is possible. In my opinion, there is still a lack of quality in attacking midfield to actually be able to aim for promotion spots again for the first time after the 2019/20 season.
