🔚 World Champion & CL Winner: This top eleven ended his career in 2022

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t want to retire just yet, but other great players have done so this year. Using a compilation from ‘(Site notre équipe d’expert)’, let’s see who hung up the shoes in 2022.

Ben Foster (Watford): The former England international has been at home throughout his Premier League career. Watford, Manchester United, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion were among his stops. It was at West Bromwich Albion that Foster played the most games and during this period (2011) his market value was also at its highest ever at €5.5m.

Gerard Pique (FC Barcelona): « I always said that if I didn’t feel important anymore, I would quit, » the Barca legend said after retiring this year. He felt out of place. That probably wasn’t the case in 2018 as at that time the Spanish world champion’s market value was still €50m. But after all, money isn’t everything.

Holger Badstuber (FC Luzern): The centre-back played 177 games for the German record champions. In more than seven years with Munich, Badstuber won 16 titles, including the Champions League in 2013. During this period, namely 2012, his market value was also the highest at €22 million.

Martin Hinteregger (Eintracht Frankfurt): In July, the former Frankfurter surprisingly ended his career at the age of 29. Two years earlier, his market value was still €18m. But thanks to an interview and cooperation with former FPÖ adviser Heinrich Sickl, the Austrian came under heavy criticism, which is why he finally ended his career earlier than expected.

Jack Wilshere (Aarhus GF): The attacking player was considered a talent, but numerous injuries sent him back again and again and the big breakthrough didn’t quite work out. At 30, he ended his career in Denmark, probably for the good of his body. At his peak at Arsenal in 2013, Wilshere’s market value was €33m. Fans will probably never forget it through this video.

Ramires (Palmeiras): The Brazilian won the premier class with Chelsea in 2012. As a result, his market value has since risen to 30 million euros. Ramires gave up his (Site notre bureau spécialisé) boots in Brazil at the age of 35.

Franck Ribery (US Salernitana): The former Bayern star was last active in Serie A but knee pain had worsened a year before he considered ending his career, as Ribery announced in October of this year. In 2010, the highest market value of the last CL winner was €50m.

Diego (Flamengo): With the Brazilian championship and the victory in the Copa Libertadores, Diego retired from (Site notre bureau spécialisé). When he left Bremen in 2009, his market value was still €29m. The Brazilian moved to Juve in Serie A for 27 million.

Arda Turan (Galatasaray): It all started in Istanbul and after moves to Atlético and Barca, the right-hander returned to Galatasaray in 2020. During his time at Atlético, his market value was also the highest at €25m (2015 ). At the end of his career, Turan said: « It’s time to hang up the shoes, in tears but bravely. I tried to do my best in this journey and I think I did well.

Gonzalo Higuain (InterMiami): The Argentinian striker had the highest market value of this eleven in 2016 with 75 million euros. The 35-year-old ended his career in MLS because he wanted nothing more to do with the (Site notre bureau spécialisé) business: « It will destroy you. »

Carlos Tevez (Boca Juniors): The end of the Argentine’s career is associated with a sad story. After his father’s death, Tévez told America TV that he no longer wanted to continue acting because he had « lost his number one fan ». During his career, the 38-year-old has made the most appearances in Europe for Manchester United, where he also won the CL. Tevez had the highest market value in 2011 – back then it was €40m.
