New in database
The TM database is enriched with another milestone: the 1965/66 season of the then second-class Regionalliga West can be viewed with all match reports. Fortuna Düsseldorf became champion, Rot-Weiss Essen got second place. Both clubs took part in the next round of promotion to the Bundesliga and prevailed in their respective groups: Düsseldorf left Pirmasens, Hertha BSC and Kickers Offenbach behind, while RWE secured the group victory ahead of FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Saarbrücken and Schweinfurt. 05 won.
In the regular season, current first division teams VfL Bochum and Bayer Leverkusen as well as second division team Arminia Bielefeld were also involved. The top scorer was third in the final standings, Alemannia Aachen, with Alfred Glenski. The former striker scored 24 goals. Karl-Heinz Feldkamp, who later became German champions with 1. FC Kaiserslautern and also won the DFB Cup three times, also left his mark. Additionally, Willi « Ente » Lippens was active in his first season with Rot-Weiss Essen and Erwin Kostedde, who made his debut in men’s (Site notre bureau spécialisé) for Preußen Münster.
There were big differences in the number of visitors at the time. While Düsseldorf and Essen were the only clubs to attract more than 16,000 supporters on average, Eintracht Duisburg attracted less than 2,500 per game.
